Seriously, I am editing.

...Wow, life gets busy fast, eh? And of all times for me to really decide and pick up editing... less than a week before Christmas.

So I was what? Seven or Eight chapters into editing, and then I stopped for half a year. Now I suddenly want to try and finish the second draft before newyears? Well, here I am on my third day of editing since deciding to go editing-mad, and I just finished chapter twelve... If I can edit two chapters a day until new years (not editing on Christmas though) then I should be able to finish the second draft! So far, I've only been unable to manage that yesturday- but I was out for hlaf the day, so hopefully I can get that made up by doing three today or tomorrow... But I've at least done two today. *goes to check what the chapter thirteen wordcount is* 2,386. I SHOULD be able to do that today before friends come over for dinner.

Er, so yep. I'm setting mysself a rule from here on out that I can only log onto the DIOM forum if I've edited two chapters on that day. If I'm behind, I need to also do the amount of catch up chapters required. You won't BELIEVE how much time I spend online there. I probably could have finished editing and written another book by now if I wern't so lazy. Haahaa.

Here's my schedule for what I hope to get done this year in editing:

Chapters 12 & 13 = 20th of December
Chapters 14 & 15 = 21st of December
Chapters 16 & 17 = 22nd of December
Chapters 18 & 19 = 23rd of December
Chapters 20 & 21 = 24th of December
CHRISTMAS- 25th
Chapters 22 & 23 = 26th of December
Chapters 24 & 25 = 27th of December
Chapters 26 & 27 = 28th of December
Chapters 28 & 29 = 29th of December

And then if I absolutely need them:
Chapters ?? & ?? = 30th of December
Chapters ?? & ?? = 31st of December

So yep- quick blog post to let y'all know I'm still alive... (Might not be by 2011 though, which would be a real shame, because I was going to go camping.) And yeah, I'm editing...

How sad am I?

Okay, so I was just writing now, and thought I'd let all of you know that I just had a funny slip up.
I accidentally used a smiley in my story- the prequel that is. Oh don't worry, I've removed it, but it was just too funny. I'll give you all a little look in though as to what I did:

“And you expect not to fall off with a grip like that?” Asora held one of the spines of Sharia’s back while she grabbed the nearest of Locha’s flailing hands and pulled it back to another to the dragon’s spikes. :P

Yes, you read that right! I used the ":p" smiley. Apparently my subconscious thinks the possibility of Locha falling off the back of a dragon, flying hundreds of thousands of meters above the ground and dying is funny. Well, now you all know that I have dark humor! Don't worry, I try not to write it in too often- but I can't help but laugh whenever I watch Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith(Yes, I'm a Star Wars fan), and Dooku gets his hands chopped off, and then his head. Then you change camera angle with Anakin talking to Palatine who's sitting on that chair thing, and you can see Dooku in the background, his hand on the floor, and head a small ways behind his body. Okay, weird I know, but I can't help but let out a chuckle. Aaaand... Well, now you've read the first paragraph I've written in a long while, and my my mini rant about dark humor... I think I'll get back to writing now since what I've written for a blog post is more than what I've actually written on the story for almost a month...

Untill next time!

Lost in translation

Just for the fun of it, since it is sorta related to writing... I took my previous blog post (see Whew- Editing.) and translated it back and forth between Japanese and English numerous times. Enjoy. ---
One day, editors, writers, all dates. It is that I have recently been discovered. [Edit] two days ago, I had to work in Chapter 6. Edit, my past experience, "Oh, this same section II again, I ..." .... and please. I have thrilling finish to the feature. To feel the change. But really, you need to think about it ... if you can read a good book many times.
p
Their hard work, please do not bore something new author. Adding excitement to return. In most cases, it requires a reader writer otherwise? Similarly, the editing, I think you can help. You asked confused, especially to find the exact position ... you are bored, or edit. Some documents are executed from the first draft of my seat - and, Kurikkuibentozubon, change must be created.I started talking to complete the necessary work. I Thaihaelon 5 (please refer to the first public example. To do this) If you can read, can you please write a draft of her main story. Are you a good start for you .. I was right, maybe I can edit some general tips to add to add a little mystery.

My editor crazy Purottotsuisutotema subtle hints really start writing you can write a sequel can not edit the second generation: 04 - 40-100 is: your mind around the word: I The mind can build 75. In this example: the world's population Thaihaelon Minotaurosukentaurusu intelligent species. Maybe I was in the movie / I (UNWARNIA SPOIELRS want: failed /), TV, convenient / Gemuarato to the spoiler, the writer gets a regular reader. I blurt out this information. Hopefully, I will post again soon!

Whew- Editing.

Some days are writing days, and some days are editing days. That's what I've been discovering lately. Yesterday was an editing day for me, so I got to work on Chapter six. My past experience in editing haven't been anything too thrilling- in fact, it felt like "here we go AGAIN... gonna read that same section over.... AGAIN... Oh, don't like that word... I'm gonna change it, AGAIN..." and so on. But really, when you think about it... You should be able to read a good book over and over.

Like how if the author has a hard time writing their story because they're bored with it, they must add something new and exciting that gets them excited about it again. Because most likely, if the writer doesn't like it, why should the reader?
In a similar way, editing also helps with that I think. If you get to a scene that you find particularly boring, or maybe it just doesn't sound right, and is a tad confusing... That's when you edit. If you write by Seat-of-the-Pants, like I do, then by the time you've finished writing your story's first draft, you'll have found out SOOOOO much more about your story, that editing is inevitable. It's necessary to make the story work start to finish. After writing the first draft of the main story for Thaihaelon, I went back and looked at my first five chapters- (they can be read here if you so wish.) which I'd started editing with my Mum... And although in general, they were correct to the story, I realized that I could also add subtle hints as to possibilities to perhaps add a bit of mystery for the reader.

And on the topic of subtle hints, plot twists in writing and editing. When you start writing a prequel things can go really crazy then. Within the four-thousand-four-hundred-and-seventy-five words I have written and hundreds of crazy ideas whirling around in my head, there is SO MUCH that'll need to happen in the way of editing, primarily from second tower onwards. Like this for example: Minotaurs and Centaurs were not the only intelligent species that populated the world of Thaihaelon. (UNWARNIA SPOIELRS: a disorder that usually writers and readers get. It causes the person who has it to blurt out story/game/movie/TV-show spoilers without warning.) And I'll leave you on that for now. Hopefully I'll post again soon!

Funny typos among other things.

You ever had one of those times where you get all the right letters in a word, but almost all in the wrong order? Well, a couple classics I do are the and girl. They always seem to transform into teh and gril. I usually make the second typo when I'm hungry. I'm sooooo glad I have a spell checker. Another funny fact: I used to make a typo of the word typo! I used to spell it "typeo", and uh, well, I still think it's fitting, but hey, I love irony.

Okay, if you read the post title, you're probably wanting the other things now. So, the other things is- Well, I've always found it fun to have people ask my characters questions, so if you have any questions for my characters, feel free to ask by leaving a comment- though please don't ask about spoilers, as well, that'd give stuff away.

Okay, let's try this again.

Wow, here I am on my what'th attempt on making a blog? Well, regardless, you can call me Ice_Fire, Icey, Ice... I have a few nick names that I'm known by. If you happen to be reading this, you've probably been told about it. This is my blog, Through the Screen Layer, and it is where I will post updates for how my writing is going on the Thaihaelon Series. Now, I don't actually have any official titles or anything yet, and well, frankly, the first book is still mostly in first draft, but at least I've got something. I'm up now at 9:26 PM, so it's not too late, and I figured I'd get this blog set up before I forget again.

You're probably wondering, what are you talking about? A prequel? You haven't even finished the main book yet! Well, true as that is, the prequel includes some major plot twists and ideas and all that fairly early on in the story that will be key to the editing process of the main story. None of you reading this, not even FrogGirl or Dannflow, actually know all of my ideas- Heh, not even Mum yet- though she'll probably find out a good bunch of them soon enough when my tongue slips. Someone grab the Sheriff of Nottingham quick! So over the period of my blogging, I'll probably attempt a few times to summarize the story, or maybe post a paragraph or two... But yep, now that this topsy-turvy intro post has blown up my face, I shall leave you all waiting for another back to front post another time.

What is it with me and forgetting about blogs?

Honestly, I have no idea! It's quite strange... And before you ask, no sorry, this post won't be as long and fancy as my previous one. ;) I just came here to post. :p So yep, I just finished section 52, and it's the 21st of December... Isn't it making how fast time flies? Well, I want to *try*and finish by January 4th, (Thiahaelon's birthday) and if not that, then I WILL (for sure!) be done before May 12th (My birthday. :p) I set odd deadlines for myself, such as, wanting to be published before I get my drivers licence. (Yeah, sad I know, I'm willing to wait on my licence so I can get published. Well, at least that's a few years away.)

Another thing that's developed, is I seem to have a group of people follwoing me about offline and online, poking me to get writing. ;) (you know you who are, namely, my Mum, and a few friends; Dannflow, Kuualoha, FrogGirl and Insaity. <-from the DioM forum, though I know my Mum and Dannflow offline. :p Of course I know my Mum offline! XD :p) But yep, I've been really slow in writing, so these people pester me. :p As I write this, Dannflow's going "more went can it be excpected?" ...grammer... (He corrected to "went can I expct more?") ...close enough... Well, hopefully soon. It's summer holidays after all here in NZ, and I don't plan too much to do, so I should have pleanty of time to write. ;) So to ya'll who poke me, keep doing so, and to ya'll who can't, but are reading: 'Till next time!
